I Need A Passport, Part 4
January 19th, 2010I could go on a long rant about how you manage to lose a Senate election, in Massachusetts, for Ted Kennedy’s seat, and the gross malpractice necessary to do that, but plenty of other people are already managing it. (If you aren’t familiar with the comedy of errors, as usual The Daily Show has the definitive version of events.)
I could talk about how our country is not only refusing to deal with the horrible, horrible things that our leaders did–and are doing–in the name of our “security”, but actively electing and re-electing people who think torture and illegal detention are good things rather than crimes against humanity and a stain on our national honor, but clearly no one is listening.
I could talk about how the Democratic leadership, from President Obama on down, has spectacularly failed to lead, failed to offer meaningful change to the American public in even one single area, and failed to make the Republicans pay even a political price for their destructive policies and rampant obstructionism…but I just can’t.
All I can do is look at what I wrote a year ago, and be sad.
I am no longer proud of my country. I am on the verge of being ashamed.
